Are you looking for an affordable sports car with serious power? In that case, you might be comparing the 2023 Chevy Camaro vs 2023 Nissan Z. Both cars offer a fun driving experience and a lot of power. However, one reigns supreme on many factors, and that is the Camaro. It has far more options, including four available engines and your choice between a coupe and a convertible. The Nissan Z brings plenty of power, style, and elegance, but it is hard to beat a quintessentially American muscle car.

The Camaro has up to 650 hp with the top engine option and crushes a 0-60 launch in 3.5 seconds. It comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission and can be equipped with a 10-speed automatic with paddle shifters. When the engine roars to life, you know that the ride is going to be exhilarating. The starting price of the Camaro is also significantly less, with a starting MSRP of $26,100, compared to the more expensive Nissan Z and its starting MSRP of $40,990.[a]

While both vehicles do provide a lot of power, comfortable and high-tech interiors, and a very fun driving experience, the Camaro just has more options, more power, and more fun. It is truly a magnificent car, making it easy to understand why the Camaro has been one of the main faces of American muscle for so many decades.

  • Engines

    Comparing Power

The Nissan Z comes with a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 engine that produces 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. This engine will get you places in a hurry, and the intercooler system keeps the engine at a manageable temperature even when it is performing at a high level. The Nissan Z puts a powerful, well-tuned engine into a sleek and aerodynamic frame, making it both perform well and look good doing it. But while the Nissan Z certainly has a solidly-built powertrain, let's see what the Camaro has to offer.

The 2023 Chevy Camaro has four available engine options. To begin with, it has a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine option is perfect for people who love the Camaro design but don't require a full-size muscle car engine. However, this engine still performs admirably, launching from 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds. Are you looking for more power? You can upgrade from the 2.0L engine to a 3.6L V6 which boasts 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque. This engine provides a decent balance between power and efficiency and can reach 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.

    Real V8 Muscle

Let's look at the big, muscle car engines that the Camaro is known for. A huge 6.2L V8 engine uses 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque to go from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds. This engine is definitely not messing around. If you want American muscle car power as you push the gas pedal to the floor, this engine is for you. Still not enough? Don't worry; Chevy has an answer. The 6.2L supercharged V8 in the Camaro ZL1 has a shocking 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, making this an incredibly powerful and strong muscle car. Taking this car down the track will push you deep into your seat.

Each of these powerful vehicles sports a noteworthy powertrain. The Nissan has more of a sports car build, while the Camaro provides the American muscle we all know and love. With up to 650 hp, the Camaro is definitely one of the most powerful muscle cars on the market today. Nissan has fine-tuned its V6 to perform at a high level as well, producing 400 ponies. Both these cars offer something special, but the Camaro takes the cake in both raw horsepower and the sheer number of powertrain options. After all, the ability to customize a car to an individual is very important to many buyers.

  • Performance

    Built for Handling

All the power in the world won't get you where you need to go if it isn't properly directed. A great engine needs a great transmission, brakes, wheels, and differentials. Without the proper parts to direct all of that horsepower, a car would be pretty useless. Fortunately, each of these cars has good transmission, brake, and differential options.

The Nissan Z uses either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission. Directing the 400 hp of the V6 engine to the wheels is no small task. The Z has solid transmission options, whether you feel the need to have total control with a manual transmission or just want to kick back and relax with a finely tuned automatic option. However, the base trim only comes with two-piston front and single-piston rear brake calipers. You will have to upgrade to a higher trim to get the available Akebono four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers.

The suspension has also been tuned for performance, utilizing responsive shocks, a double-wishbone front suspension, and a multi-link rear suspension. Another great feature is the available mechanical limited-slip differential on the Performance trim, which helps to prevent the car from sending all the power to a spinning wheel due to lack of traction. All these features make the Nissan Z an excellent performing sports car when properly specced.

    The Performance You're Looking For

The Camaro comes with three transmission options for its four engines. All four engines come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. Also available is an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic for the base engine or a 10-speed paddle-shift automatic for the other three engines. The manual transmission will give you the most control over the available 650 hp but for some drivers, that is more hassle than they like. For those drivers, the automatic transmissions allow a simple drive while still allowing control if you want, giving you the best of both worlds.

Unlike the Z, the Camaro offers some seriously impressive brake options. Brembo four-piston front calipers are standard on V8 models and can be upgraded to race-ready six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers. The Camaro also includes a standard mechanical limited-slip rear differential, and it has an available computer-controlled electronic limited-slip rear differential as well. All in all, the Camaro is a highly customizable muscle car with a ton of attractive performance options.

The Camaro wins the performance category due to better options for transmissions, differentials, suspension, and engines. These options provide you the choice to get the exact performance you are searching for. While the Nissan Z has very good performance, it can't quite match up to Chevy's muscle car.

    A Variety of Options

The interior design of each of these cars really goes well with the sleek and powerful exteriors. The seats come in all sorts of colors and fabrics, from cloth to leather. Both come with a variety of color options, each complementing their respective exterior design. When you step into either of these cars, it is clear that a lot of thought and careful design has gone into it. Each car also provides a lot of high-tech features, like a stellar multimedia infotainment system with connectivity for all smart devices.

The Camaro has a ton of different interior options, from black and gray cloth to Recaro performance seats with jet black leather, red accents, and perforated sueded microfiber inserts. This luxurious muscle car has many colors and fabric options available. The Camaro also has several impressive tech options, including an eight-inch touchscreen to control the media. It even has an available Bose nine-speaker audio system so you can crank up your favorite music while cruising down the road.

    Bold and Luxurious

The Nissan Z is available with a bold blue or red interior color palette which makes for a powerful look. The fabrics are cloth or leather. The seats are comfortable and hearken back to the history of the Nissan 240Z. The tech included with the Z is modern and of the highest quality. The 12.3-inch digital dash provides you with all the information about your vehicle while you are driving. The eight-inch or nine-inch multimedia screen options keep your music only a touch away.

Both vehicles have high-tech and luxurious seating options, but the Camaro wins this competition due to a wider variety of options than the Nissan Z. If you are searching for a luxurious and bold muscle car with a high level of customizability, the Camaro is going to be the car for you. While the Nissan is bold and luxurious, it just doesn't have that many options.
