There’s nothing like a new vehicle release. For automotive lovers, it’s a bit like Christmas morning. You get to unwrap the designs, take in the visual differences from the previous model, look over the updated specs, and really dive into what the world will be like with the all-new vehicle. This is especially true for truck lovers. New truck models mean more agility, more power, more towing, and even more comfort. If you’re wondering when will the new Colorado be released, you won’t have to wait long, because in a few weeks you will be seeing the 2021 Chevy Colorado at your local Chevy dealership, including Rick Hendrick Chevrolet of Buford.

When Is The 2021 Colorado Coming Out?

We don’t have an exact day just yet, as Chevrolet hasn’t released an official date. But don’t worry, we do have a time frame, which should help. Chevy has told us that the 2021 Chevy Colorado will be available late spring 2020.

The first official day of summer begins on June 20. This means the pickup should arrive sometime before that. We’re looking at late May into early June. If we had to guess, it would probably be close to the late May time frame, as Chevy will want to have the truck ready for adventure seekers who want a new truck to pull their boat to the lake or toss their gear in as they go camping. Trucks are built for summer, and for many (especially if you have any school-aged kids), summer begins toward the end of May. Whenever it does come out, we’d keep an eye out for that general time window to place your orders or come visit the lot.

Of course, when Chevrolet lets us know more specifics, we will let you know as well.

Major Design Changes To The Upcoming 2021 Chevy Colorado

The 2021 Chevy Colorado is not a new generational release, which means it will share the same basic look as the 2020 model. Most of the changes will be smaller, but still important in keeping the look of the Colorado fresh and new.

For starters, it is going to come standard with 17-inch wheels that will give it a rather menacing stance. It will look aggressive, and the tires will show it means business. The pickup will also come with a redesigned grille and tailgate. These are designed to be more in line with the kind of grille you see on the Chevy Silverado. “Chevrolet” will be stamped into the center of the grille on ZR2 trims, and the bowtie logo will be off-center (to the right, when looking at the truck).

You will find the truck comes in three new paint colors as well. This will give you a few look options for the 2021 model year you didn’t have for the previous year. One of the new colors includes “Sand Dune Metallic,” which will be an exclusive color for the Z71 and ZR2 trims. Chevy has also said there will be more differences between each trim.

You will find a new center bar on the WT, LT, and Z71 trims, as well as new front skid plates and lower fascias. The bowtie logo will also look a bit different from previous years, and the new looks will depend on which trim you decide to go with. On the WT and LT trims, the bowtie logo will be in all gold. On the Z71 trim, the bowtie will be in all black.

ZR2 Upgrades And Changes

The ZR2 is the Colorado’s performance trim, so if you are an off-road lover, this will be the trim you’ll probably be most interested in. The pickup will be the only one of the entire lineup that will use the “Chevrolet” stamped front grille. It will also provide improved visibility with its body design while also allowing for the wider, more aggressive stance. On the new ZR2, the pickup will use segment-exclusive Multimatic DSSV position-sensitive dampers, plus a two-inch suspension lift, standard front and rear electronic locking differentials, a track that is 3.5-inches wider than the other trims, plus cast-iron control arms, off-road rocker protection, and standard with red tow hooks.

Pricing

We don’t have the specifics yet for how much the new Colorado, nor the trims, will run. However, because this is not a new generation release, it is possible to simply look at last year’s model and go from there. The price point will likely be slightly different, but it is a good way to start. The current 2020 Chevy Colorado has a starting MSRP of $21,300, so we expect the new 2021 Chevy Colorado to start right around at the same price point.

Will There Be New Engines?

A tan 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 is facing away into a desert at dusk.

There are no plans to include new engines on the 2021 release. Currently, this is part of the second generation of the Colorado, which started in 2015. Generation runs for pickups will often last at least ten years. We’d guess a new engine, if one does come out, would be more likely during the 2022 or 2023 model year releases than the 2021.

You will find the same engines that are currently in the 2020s. This includes a 2.5L I4, a 3.6L V6, and a 2.8L Duramax turbodiesel. Now, while the engines will be the same, some of the specs might be tweaked a bit. You will sometimes see a small increase in torque from model year to model year, even when the same engines are used. This will depend on a few build factors, so while you should look to the 2020 numbers for what to expect, it is possible the numbers might increase slightly.

What Are You Looking Forward To?

So what on the new 2021 Chevy Colorado are you looking forward to the most? Do you like the new grille that is being used, so it matches that of the current Silverado lineup? Or how about the new features that come standard on the ZR2? We know we are excited to start seeing the new pickups roll up onto the lot. So keep it here for updates as they are announced.

The Wait Is Almost Over

The wait for the new 2021 Chevy Colorado is almost over. With the late spring release, you will start seeing the pickup make its way to our lot by the time summer fun is taking off. It doesn’t matter if you’re just a fan of the truck and wants to be one of the first to see it in person, or you’ve been considering an upgrade and want to go with the 2021 Colorado, be sure to stop by when we get them on the lot. Whatever the reason, you’re just a few weeks away from experiencing the next Colorado entry. An experience available at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet in Buford, GA. Contact us to learn more.
