This is a big year for Chevy, and the Silverado 3500 HD shows just how big it is with its assortment of new improvements. This includes an all-new interior design for the LT, LTZ, and High Country trims, spearheaded by the addition of an all-new 12.3-inch HD driver information display center with configurable profiles. The Chevrolet Infotainment suite has been enhanced with Google Built-In and a much larger 13.4-inch HD touchscreen. What's more, for 2023 models, the revered Allison 10-speed automatic transmission is now standard with all available powertrain configurations for the Silverado 3500 HD.
The Silverado 3500 HD received a redesigned front fascia with an updated bumper and grille and has all-new wheel options. The most exciting thing about the refreshed truck is the inclusion of two all-new trims. The 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD is available with two distinct powertrains: a 6.6-liter gasoline V8 with E85 FlexFuel compatibility and a turbocharged 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8. The two engine options offer different benefits for heavy-duty truckers looking for a one-ton pickup that does well hauling, trailering, or doing both at the same time.
Like previous model years, the 2024 Silverado 3500 HD is also available in multiple cab and drivetrain configurations. You can get this truck in either a two-door Regular Cab, a two-and-two-half-door Double Cab, or a four-door Crew Cab. You also have rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive with single rear wheels or rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive with dual rear wheels. Combine that with the all-new wheel options, which scale from 18 inches all the way up to 22 inches, and you have a very well-rounded and versatile heavy-duty pickup.
The 6.6-liter gasoline V8 delivers 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. While these are the same figures as last year, the powertrain has been upgraded. The 10-speed automatic Allison transmission now comes standard with the 6.6-liter gas-powered V8 as well as the optional Duramax turbo-diesel, giving you improved drivetrain capabilities for all of your towing or payload needs.
The turbocharged Duramax now has a brand-new rating of 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque, which is a 7% increase in overall torque and nearly a 6% increase in overall horsepower compared to the previous model year's performance ratings. The engineers also improved access to low-end torque by up to 25%. This means you can get more out of the Silverado 3500 HD with more stable performance and reliability than ever before, even at lower speeds.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD really shines when it comes to hauling and towing. When towing with the gasoline V8, you can expect to manage up to 21,600 lbs of trailering capacity. For maximum trailering capacity, the Duramax turbo-diesel will afford you up to 36,000 lbs worth of cargo. The expanded towing abilities are also made possible thanks to the many trailering technologies made available for the truck. This includes the new Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailering and the ability to see behind the trailer thanks to the enhanced Transparent Trailer View when you have a gooseneck or fifth-wheel trailer in tow. You also have the new GCW Alert and Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert for when a trailer is hooked up.
The Silverado 3500 HD is also more capable than ever when it comes to hauling heavy payloads. The Durabed has 12 standard tie-downs rated at 500 lbs and nine removable accessory tie-downs to make it perfect for big and small hauls alike. This ensures that you can keep all your cargo tied down nicely and securely, whether traveling on or off the road. How much cargo can you haul in the Silverado 3500 HD? Up to 6,644 lbs with the Duramax and up to 7,290 lbs with the gasoline V8. You can make sure that your cargo is properly in its place with the LED cargo area corner pillar lamps and cab-mounted cargo lamps. If you need to use the Silverado 3500 HD as a mobile workstation, you can use the 120-volt power outlet at the rear of the bed.
You have 69.5 cu.ft. of cargo volume in the rear of the truck with the standard bed configuration, but you can extend that much further with the long bed, which grants you 83.5 cu.ft. of cargo volume. The Multi-Flex Tailgate makes storing, loading, and unloading cargo much easier than ever before. With the Multi-Flex Tailgate, you have six different tailgate functions that accommodate whatever you need to use the tailgate for. This includes a raised load-stop, a lowered load-stop, a tailgate assist step, a raised work surface, easier access into the bed, and a standard dampened tailgate. How you use the truck and what you use it for is entirely up to you.
As much as the 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD is known for its heavy-duty capabilities, it's also a very robust full-size pickup when it comes to convenience and comfort. This has been highlighted with the all-new interior redesign for the LT, LTZ, and High Country trims. The new cabin offers leather surfaces and wood accents, up to 10 available cupholders, and enhanced hidden storage spaces in the console, in the upper and lower gloveboxes, and behind the infotainment screen.
Other convenience updates include an all-new, improved infotainment stack.
