For nearly 70 years, the Corvette has been one of the most powerful and respected sports cars on the road. With its mid-engine redesign for the 2020 model year, the Corvette went a step further than any other American performance vehicle, delivering a level of power we had long been waiting for. Now, the 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 is ready to take things even further with a performance-focused experience that is even more powerful and exhilarating than the standard mid-engine ‘Vette.
Although it has a number of impressive features on offer, what truly sets the Corvette Z06 apart from everything else out there is its engine. While the standard C8 Corvette – the current generation – already has a fantastic engine, the Z06 goes even further with a 5.5L flat-plane crank V8 that delivers 670 hp and revs up to 8600 rpm. This engine is a monster with power that lives up to everything we have ever hoped for from a mid-engine Corvette. It is paired with a dual-clutch 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive for mind-blowing acceleration and racetrack performance that will make you the envy of your friends.
Technology is everything you could hope for in this model, including a digital gauge cluster, a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, and much more. It has a number of features and options perfectly suited for the track, such as magnetic ride control 4.0 that reads the road every millisecond, a performance data recorder, and available carbon-fiber interior details for added elegance. There is even a Bose 14-speaker Performance Series audio system that surrounds you in stunning sound quality. Available as either a coupe or a convertible, you can get exactly the kind of ride you want in your 2023 Corvette Z06.
Although the engine is important in any vehicle, in a sports car or other high-performance model, it is even more vital. After all, the engine is the heart of your car, and much of your vehicle’s overall performance really comes down to the engine. While the Corvette Z06 has a number of excellent features that are part of its overall performance-focused design, the engine roaring behind its cockpit is on another level entirely.
At its core, the Corvette Z06 is a precisely designed, high-performance vehicle that has been tuned and engineered to deliver an exhilarating and heart-pounding experience. This means there is a single engine option available. Rather than wasting time offering different choices, with one being the best, the Z06 gives you the best possible engine with all of the power you want right out of the gate. Powering this Corvette is a 5.5L DOHC V8 direct-injection engine that delivers 670 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. This naturally-aspirated engine has an impressive flat-plane crankshaft that can roar up to 8600 rpm – about 2000 rpm higher than the standard C8 Corvette – giving it a sound of raw power that you will simply not find anywhere else.
As with the standard C8 Corvette, the Z06 has a mid-engine design, putting the weight of the engine just behind the cockpit, above the rear wheels. This centers the weight of the vehicle and, combined with the Z06’s rear-wheel drive, delivers an incredible driving experience built for speed and precision. When properly equipped, the 2023 Corvette Z06 can sustain 1.22 G of lateral G-Force to press you deep into your seat as the engine roars to life.
This incredible V8 comes paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that has been designed to shift gears much faster than even the most practiced driver. While we certainly understand the desire to always be in control with a manual transmission – especially with a performance vehicle like this; the speed and responsiveness of this transmission are remarkable, plus paddle shifters keep you in control when you want it. All of this comes together to let you go from 0 to 60 in just 2.6 seconds, flying through the gears as you blast off the starting line with speed and power that few other vehicles out there can even imagine.
While there is no denying that the engine of the 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 has been designed for incredible performance, it is far from the only aspect of this car that was built with speed in mind. In fact, we would argue that every last part of this vehicle was designed to deliver the most impressive and powerful experience possible. This all comes together to create a total package that offers domination over the road in a way that no other sports car can manage.
For starters, the Z06 has a stance that is 3.6 inches wider than the standard C8 Corvette, which not only accommodates the massive tires available for it but also gives it greater stability at high speeds. You also get unique front and rear fascias on the Z06. The front fascia is not only designed to stand apart from the standard C8 model but also helps optimize cooling for the Z06’s beastly engine. We mentioned the large wheels and tires: the Corvette Z06 comes with 20-inch wheels on the front and 21-inch wheels on the rear axle for boosted performance. If you choose the available Z07 Performance Package, then you get carbon-fiber wheels that are 41 lbs lighter than the standard ones, boosting performance even further.
There are eight different wheel options available, with different tires for you to choose from, so you can really customize your Z06 to meet your needs. Due to the different sizes of front and rear wheels, you get 20-inch tires on the front and 21-inch tires on the rear. The Z06 comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S ZP tires standard, though the available Z07 Performance Package replaces those with exclusive Michelin Sport Cup 2 R ZP tires that offer incredible traction on the racetrack.
All of this power and speed means you need a lot of stopping power; the Z06 comes with Brembo 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brakes standard, which keep you in control. There are also carbon-ceramic brakes available if you are looking to take your Corvette to the track and need something that can handle the break-neck acceleration and speed that comes with it. Finally, you get magnetic ride control 4.0 on the Z06, which reads the road every millisecond and responds to road conditions in 10-15 milliseconds, ensuring you are always in control.
Although a lot of attention on the Corvette Z06 has been focused on its engine and overall high-performance design, there are also other technological innovations on this sports car. Inside the Z06, you get an 8-inch infotainment display in the center of the dashboard, while the dash has been lowered from previous generations of the Z06 to take advantage of the lack of an engine on the front of the vehicle. This gives you a far superior view of the road ahead of you, letting you feel an unfettered connection with your Corvette.
The cockpit design matches the current C8 with a row of buttons and controls running between the driver and front-passenger seats. This keeps distractions out of your eye-line, while a digital instrument cluster lets you keep track of the information you need. A head-up display projects information from the driver information system onto the windshield, so you can keep your eyes on the track ahead of you and still see what is important. Meanwhile, a performance data recorder can capture information for you, including your acceleration, braking, gear choice, and more, to help you improve lap times or boost performance on road trips.
A Bose premium 10-speaker sound system comes standard on the Corvette Z06 along with 8-way power-adjustable seats, though there are three trim levels available if you want enhanced features. Higher trims include things like a Bose Performance Series 14-speaker sound system, heated and ventilated seats, and memory settings, along with active safety features. For added luxury, available packages include details like carbon-fiber interior trim, console, and paneling, as well as GT2 seats with Napa leather and carbon-fiber trim.
