Whenever you are looking at any vehicle, performance is important since it impacts so much of your driving experience. Even if you are not looking for something that gets your heart racing, you should at least want a vehicle that is fun to drive. In this regard, the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV definitely comes through with great overall performance.
One Motor Power
The Bolt EUV has a single powertrain available: a 200 hp motor with front-wheel drive (FWD). This is essentially the same system that the hatchback Bolt EV has – since they are built on the same platform, they have pretty similar overall performance. The all-electric design really does this model a lot of favors; however, as you get instantaneous torque that lets the motor kick in the moment you press the pedal. It makes it very fun to drive and really feels a lot sportier than you might first expect.
At release, there will not be an option for all-wheel drive (AWD), only the standard FWD setup. It is entirely possible that Chevy is working on an option for AWD and boosted overall performance – with EV models, this is typically achieved by having two motors: one on each axle. For now, we do not know anything official about that, so if you are really set on having AWD, then you will need to wait a bit. But the launch version is still incredibly fun to drive and delivers great performance.
Charging and Range
One of the biggest concerns that a lot of drivers have when considering adopting an electric vehicle is the need to charge it. This has been a big hurdle for the auto industry, but every year the technology improves, and charging time is becoming less of an issue. The 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV gets to take advantage of the improvements in this area and offers an excellent range and numerous charging options.
On a full charge, the Bolt EUV has a maximum range of about 250 miles, which is competitive with other similar EV models out there. While something like the Tesla Model Y has a longer range on a full charge, it also costs significantly more than the Bolt EUV, so that makes sense. The Bolt EUV uses regenerative braking to boost efficiency, and you can switch to one-pedal driving to make this even more effective. Charging the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV is incredibly easy since it supports Level 1, Level 2, and available DC Fast Charging options.
Level 1 charging is basic at-home functionality that lets you plug into any 120v outlet. You can also purchase a home charging unit for Level 2 charging with a 240v connection that is significantly faster than a standard outlet. In fact, Chevy, in partnership with Qmerit, plans to cover the installation of Level 2 charging stations for Bolt EUV customers who qualify. The Bolt EUV comes with a Dual Level Charge Cord that features a changeable plug, so you can easily connect to Level 1 or Level 2 outlets. You can also get your Bolt EUV so that it functions with DC Fast Charging stations, which allows you to get up to 95 miles of range in just 30 minutes.
More Room Than the Bolt EV
The inside of the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV is really stunning, and even though it is built on the same platform as the standard Bolt EV hatchback, the EUV design has allowed Chevy to give you a lot more space. In fact, even though the Bolt EUV is larger than the Bolt EV overall, it actually has slightly less cargo space inside. That is because this extra space has been used to give your passengers more room. Your rear-seat passengers, in particular, will get a lot more legroom in the Bolt EUV than in the hatchback model.
You get a flat-bottom steering wheel in the Chevy Bolt EUV along with a push-button gear selector, with comfortable and luxurious seating for up to five people. Heated and ventilated seats are available, as are leather-appointed seating and other luxurious details throughout. A digital driver display is standard, along with a 10.2-inch infotainment display, wireless device charging, and wireless support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Three trims are available right now: the standard LT, the Premier, and the Launch Edition. The Launch Edition comes with unique badging and all the available features, but it has currently been fully reserved. Both the LT and Premier have great features, and you can still choose available options to upgrade your Bolt EUV.
At the end of the day, nothing is more important than your vehicle’s ability to help keep you and your loved ones safe. Long driving range, a luxurious interior, and easy charging are all great, but they are meaningless if you are not safe on the road. Fortunately, the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV features a number of excellent safety features as part of the Chevy Safety Assist package that comes standard on every model.
Chevy Safety Assist
The Chevy Safety Assist package is a suite of six advanced safety features that ensures every Bolt EUV stays safe on the road. This includes Automatic Emergency Braking to assist you in avoiding a collision, a Forward Collision Alert, and Front Pedestrian Braking to help protect others. You also get Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, a Following Distance Indicator to warn you when you might be tailgating someone, and IntelliBeam Auto High Beam Assist to keep the road illuminated while helping you to avoid blinding other drivers. These great safety features all come standard on every model, no matter what trim or other features you choose. There is also a rear camera mirror available to provide you with a wider and less obstructed view of the road behind you.
Best of all, GM’s exciting new Super Cruise technology is available for the Bolt EUV – the first time it is being offered on a Chevy vehicle. This is a semi-autonomous driving system designed to assist you with hands-free functionality on compatible roads. More than 200,000 miles of roads in the US and Canada are compatible with Super Cruise right now, with more roadways being added. Just activate Super Cruise when the light on your steering wheel turns green, and let your Bolt EUV take over driving for a while; just remember you still need to keep your eyes on the road.
