A lot of people want the functionality and performance of an SUV, but they are concerned about the large size and costs of having a full-size or even a midsize model. That is when a compact SUV is a great option, providing much of the functionality and interior space of a larger model, without taking up as much room in your life or garage. Even if you have decided that a compact SUV is the right choice for what you need, it can still be tricky to figure out the perfect model. Looking at the 2020 Chevy Trax vs 2020 Honda HR-V, we can see that while they both have a lot to offer, the Chevy Trax comes out on top in some key ways.

To be fair, the Honda HR-V is a fine option with plenty of features, and as you look at higher trim levels for these two vehicles, they can become fairly comparable. But when you look at the starting trims and the standard features they have, it is easy to see that you simply get more with the 2020 Chevy Trax. It has an engine with much more torque, providing you with a powerful and responsive driving experience, and its 6-speed automatic transmission is great for getting around town or going on long road trips.

While both of these vehicles have great features inside, the 2020 Chevy Trax starts off with a lot more to offer, including a superior sound system, a larger infotainment display, and other great features throughout. You may be able to choose comparable features on the 2020 Honda HR-V if you are willing to pick up some available packages, but why pay more for what comes standard on the Chevy Trax? Both of these compact SUVs are very safe and have a wide range of fantastic available safety features, though the Trax gives you a bit more standard. When you are ready to see the remarkable 2020 Chevy Trax for yourself, then come visit us at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet of Buford.

  • Performance

    Engine and Performance

While you might think that the engine matters most in vehicles like sports cars and heavy-duty pickup trucks, you want a good engine in anything that you drive. After all, the engine is the heart of your vehicle and makes a tremendous difference in how fun and responsive a vehicle is when you are behind the wheel. When you look at an SUV, even a compact model, you want to be sure it has a great engine that works well for getting around town or hitting the road for a vacation. Both of these vehicles have only one engine available, which makes it easy to see how they stack up.

    The 2020 Chevy Trax

The 2020 Chevy Trax features a 1.4L Turbo EcoTec 4-cylinder engine that delivers up to 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and comes with front-wheel drive standard, though all-wheel drive is available on every trim. This means that if you prefer AWD, but you are happy with the rest of the features on any particular trim, then you can choose AWD without having to worry about changing anything else about the vehicle.

    The 2020 Honda HR-V

By comparison, the 2020 Honda HR-V also has a 4-cylinder engine, which provides up to 141 hp and up to 127 lb-ft of torque. This comes paired with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) on every model; higher trims beyond the starting option feature dual-mode paddle shifters, but the starting trim does not. Real-time all-wheel drive can be had on every trim of the Honda HR-V, though it is worth noting that some, such as the Touring trim, feature AWD standard, rather than available.

As you can see, these are somewhat comparable engines in some ways, though they differ in some key aspects. While the Honda’s engine gives you a bit more horsepower, it is not by much, whereas the Chevy Trax offers substantially more torque, which makes for a more responsive and sporty overall driving experience. The 6-speed automatic transmission may be more to your liking than the CVT, which can feel a bit flat, and the fact that one trim of the Honda model comes with AWD could be a positive or a flaw, depending on your preferences.

  • Interior

The interior of any vehicle is always important since you will spend so much of your time with your car or SUV driving it and sitting inside. In most cases, the features and technology you find inside a vehicle will depend greatly on the trim level you choose, which makes sense. We often find it quite helpful, however, to look at the starting trim and standard features on two different vehicles to see how they compare. This gives you a good sense of the overall value of these two SUVs since you can see what you will get if you choose the bare minimum and not what you can get if money is no object.

    The 2020 Chevy Trax

With the 2020 Chevy Trax, the standard trim is the LS, which features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a 6-speaker audio system, and numerous USB ports. The LS has cloth seating, including a 4-way manual driver’s seat, and a steering wheel that features mounted controls for the audio system, phone interface, and cruise control. Inside the Chevy Trax LS, you will also find a 3-inch driver information display, an 8-point digital compass, standard instrumentation, single-zone climate control, and it has remote keyless entry.

    The 2020 Honda HR-V

The starting trim of the 2020 Honda HR-V is the LX, which features a 4-speaker audio system, a 5-inch color LCD screen, and a single USB port in the front console. Inside the LX is a manually adjustable driver’s seat and front passenger seat, a steering wheel with illuminated controls, and cargo area lighting. The 2020 Honda HR-V LX also features air conditioning with air filtration, a rear-window defroster, cargo area lighting, and front vanity mirrors.
