Chevy Colorado vs. Chevy Silverado: Which Truck Is Right for You?

September 15th, 2016 by

So, you’re scouting around for a pickup truck? Chevrolet’s appeal has endured over the years with a history of pickups that dates all the way back to 1918. Two of its most popular trucks are the Colorado and Silverado, but which is right for you? That depends on your needs. Need a reliable truck for light work or something that can tackle the more heavy duty dirty work? See which truck fits the bill.

2016 Chevy Colorado

This is a midsize truck ideal for light to medium work. The Colorado is proud to have snagged the Motor Trend Truck of the Year award two years in a row. In addition, the Duramax 2.8L turbo-diesel version gives you up to 31 miles per gallon, making it the most fuel-efficient truck in its class. In terms of technology, the Colorado is the first midsize truck with 4G LTE Wi-Fi on board.

You have three engines to choose from — the 2.5L I-4, the 3.6L V6, and the 2.8L diesel. All three versions offer outstanding performance in terms of horsepower and towing capacity in the midsize category. The diesel Duramax is also the best in its class for torque and towing capacity (easily pulling up to 7,700 pounds).

All this makes the Chevy Colorado an excellent choice of pickup truck. It’s the perfect solution for those who need a smaller truck that comfortably cruises around the city streets, but also effortlessly gets to work lugging small to medium loads when needed. It’s also the better option for those on a tighter budget as it comes in at around $10,000 to $20,000 less than the Silverado.

Silverado is the bigger truck, so if you believe bigger is better, then this is the truck for you. The Chevy Silverado is one of the best full-size heavy-duty pickup trucks on the market and has claimed the title Most Dependable Large Heavy Duty Truck Two Years in a Row by J.D Power. It’s a mean machine with an imposing and aggressive-looking front grille. This is the truck for the man’s man — making you feel like you’re Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris rolled into one. It’s kickass and means business. The special edition Midnight model, an all-black design, is turning out to be hugely popular and a high seller for Chevrolet.

This is the ideal workhorse for those who predominantly use their trucks for hard labor and not for simply driving around looking pretty. The tough roll-formed steel bed has been put through rigorous testing and is extremely durable, outperforming the competition that features weaker aluminum beds. There are four powerful models to choose from. The lightest being the 1500, which tows up to 12,000 pounds, and the heavier versions 2500HD and 3500HD with a towing capacity of 18,000 and 23,200 pounds, respectively.

Both these pickup trucks are attractive, sturdy, and well-priced. You can’t go wrong with a Chevy. It all comes down to what you’ll be using your truck for and you already know the answer to that, so head down to your nearest Chevrolet dealer and go get your truck.
