5 Farmer’s Markets to Visit Near Atlanta This Fall

Though not a major agricultural state, Georgia has many local farmer’s markets with a fall season. When you’re in the mood to find that perfect jack-o-lantern pumpkin to carve for Halloween or looking to get the right autumn spices for your latest dinner idea, head to one of these excellent farmer’s markets in and around Atlanta. Each market has its own personality and times you can visit, so one or two are bound to be a good fit.

Cotton Mill Farmer’s Market

This market is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday, rain or shine. There are a lot of events planned until October 1, when things slow down and the market opens later, at 9 a.m. Take advantage of the fun events before then, like a scavenger hunt, an ice cream social with handmade gelato, a watermelon seed spitting contest, and live music. Marietta Square Farmers Market

This year-round market in historic Marietta Square is open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, as well of Sundays from noon to 3 p.m. from April to November. The market is held on a well-paved road with tents and is easy to reach for anyone near Silver Springs or Smyrna.

Newnan Community Farmer’s Market

This market is at the Historic Society Train Station in Newnan every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the season, which this year goes until November 24. The market has crafts, honey, coffee, artisan soap, and tasty bakery treats. Drivers near Peachtree City or fairly close to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport will find Newnan’s market a convenient and fun trip.

Decatur Farmers Market

Set at Commerce St. on the lawn of the First Baptist Church of Decatur, this welcoming family market gives off a bit of a Sunday best vibe. It’s still a friendly event at heart and even allows dogs on short, non-expandable leashes. From April to October, this market is open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Fortunately, it remains open for the winter months on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
